O Jerusalem

A poem

“Where can I find
you, Jerusalem? In
my dreams, along
the margins of my
prayer book when
I face the East in
the dawn? I throw
on my tallit and
kiss the fringes
while thinking of
you, O Jerusalem.

O Jerusalem,
My eye looks
toward you; My
soul yearns for
your embrace.

Are we going
to the House of
the Lord?
I carry Him on
my shoulders as
I weep and
remember Zion.”

Esther: the Queen of Secret IdentitiesNowhere else in the ancient corpus do we see a secret identity so fully fledged as with the eponymous heroine in the story of Purim.
